Art Threrapy - What it is...

It is the changes in your body when you become completely absorbed in creating...a form of meditation. Every form of art can be a form of therapy- writing, poetry, song, music, dance, painting (with fingers-sponges and carved potatoes if you like), stenciling, tracing, drawing, crafting, cooking, sewing (Fabric arts!), scrapbooking, woodburning, photography, video, performing, comedy, and website design -these are just some examples.   Explore your medium.  Let yourself go, you will be attracted to what will give you satisfaction.

Photography

When I take my digital camera on a nature walk the walk itself is beneficial,  will allow a calmness that restores spirit.  You can always use parts of pictures for future paintings, and light source (morning or evening) can change the way everything looks.  Having a photo, still life or sculpture to work from helps lightening and perspective when attempting a realistic view.  An abstract painting allows anything to happen (best to work with and not fight against your medium such as oils or watercolor).

My thanks to The Somers Cultural Commission and all the participants in the "Artists in the Garden Tour"...

"Gardening is the art that uses flowers and plants as paint, and the soil and sky as canvas." Elizabeth Murray

Ten Gardens were made available by property owners to walk and photograph by ticket sales. Local Artists donated original artwork that was made available for sale at Worthington Pond-all sales benefit The Somers Cultural Commission Scholarship Fund. This is a community venture. I donated a painting and took photos of three places: Cooksville, Worthington Pond and Wood Road. It was a glorious day and the pictures were just waiting for me to show up. Feel free to use them. During the winter months you can paint and draw inside from photos taken all season.

An abstract watercolor that looks like a place I've never been. At least not in this lifetime. A world traveller told me it reminded her of St. Michaels in Normandy, France and after investigation it does.  Sometimes there is pictures within pictues. I saw angels in the clouds-when that happens you can go back and increase that definition.  I love painting. Find a medium that allows you to express yourself with joy-and continue to explore other mediums as well.

This website was created using the photos I have taken, the new standard of stylesheets actually makes web pages much cleaner to create and update.
